SUMMARY OF THE MENTOR TEXT:

Ludwig Bemelmans book, Madeline’s Christmas, brings us a holiday story featuring our favorite characters from the Madeline books.

It is Christmas Eve and everyone in the house is sick, except for Madeline. While everyone is in bed, she is up at night taking care of the chores. She cooked the girls and Miss Clavel a healthy dinner, cleaned the house, and gave people their medicine.

Suddenly, Madeline heard a knock on the door. While she thought it might be Santa, it turned out to be a rug merchant that had exactly 12 rugs for sale. Madeline bought the rugs thinking they would be perfect for the girls’ cold feet in the morning. Without the rugs, the merchant realized he was too cold outside. Madeline welcomed him into the house and warmed him up.

To her surprise, the merchant was also a magician. She asked him to help clean up from dinner and with a spell, everything was cleaned and put away. He even used his magic to make the carpets fly and brought all the girls home to celebrate Christmas with their families.

When Miss Clavel rang her bell though, the spell was broken. The girls were back home together and ready to celebrate the new year.
